Visit to IISC for prof Robert J Aumann's lecture

It was in the month of February that we got a mail from Prof Prasanna inviting people for attending Prof Robert J Aumann's lecture at IISC .  The topic  was GAME THEORY and suffice it to say that clinched it.
We were told to report at IISC at about 10. I started a bit early and reached there at 8:30 itself.
Very few people were there at that time. Prof Aumann arrived at around 8:45 , after the tea and refreshments there was an announcement regarding a small gathering in a conference room where the scientists and the People from Industry would formally welcome the Prof. Well I was standing outside the room waiting to hear what the great scientist had to say as the chairs inside were already almost full with the other dignitaries from the academic and industrial research community. The prof sitting inside noticed me and few others standing at the door , to our pleasant surprise he waved to us and gestured us to sit in the second row just in front of him where there were some empty seats. The proceedings began and all of us were enraptured by the simplicity and unassuming nature of the Noble laureate. He answered many questions like application of Game theory while dealing with terrorists etc . He talked about something known as Knot theory also which he illustrated on a soft board kept there . Needless to say it felt like we were in a class which was being conducted by a noble laureate.
The entourage from IIITB arrived at around 10 . The main event started around 10:30 . Prof Aumann gave the same lecture which he gave at the time of accepting the noble prize and it was done using transparency sheets over a projector no laptops !!!! .It had a very good quote from Talmud also which I have found out recently has some of the earliest examples of cooperative game theory in form of laws . A question answer session was there at the end which saw audience quizzing the Noble Laureate ( Prof Prasanna asked a very important question on the relation between Game theory and Thermodynamics)
Overall it was a great experience and an absolute honor to attend a lecture by prof Aumann . The next big thing would be to off course attend a lecture by Dr John Nash . Let us see when that happens .
